  1. Pink's book is a phenomenal and highly readable treatise on motivation. We read it as an admin team. Ironically, we were thinking of forcing everyone else to read it, too- no autonomy in that! His analysis should really challenge us to rethink how we structure schooling to make certain we are doing things conscientiously in education to build structured choices and a significant degree of autonomy into students' days and staff work. The challenge on that is it seems antithetical in some ways to a top-down mandatory testing mode and we do appear to be living in that era, so the prudent administrator will strive to find that balance and nurture the places where autonomy and purpose can really flourish k-12.
